WOW! Friday night's game was awesome. I couldn't believe how awesome our boys played. I was very proud of how our football team played. From everything everybody had heard we should not have even played the game. A lot of people told me that Olivet was going to kill us because they are super good. I'm glad our team played it's best game of the year against them. Olivet is our big rival and even though we only won two games this year,I'm glad one was against them.
I am proud of everybody involved with the team. The coaches did a super job of calling the plays. I really liked that we went for the two point conversion instead of playing it safe and kicking a one pointer. I think it was the right decision. The way I see it we had nothing to lose. I love how the players never quit. Even though some of them may have thought that we had nothing to play for, we were way out of the playoffs. The boys never let on that we had only won once. They played as if we needed to win to make it to the playoffs. The cheerleaders did a good job of keeping everybody fired up and into the game. The waterboys also did a top notch job. Everybody came together to do their part to have a successful game.
I also love how the students were so into the game at the end. I saw many kids yelling, screaming and cheering their guts out. The "student tunnel" by the gate at the end of the game was one of the rowdiest and best I have seen in a long time. It rocked.
Everyone in our school should be proud of how our lions all fought together to beat Olivet. Good job everyone.

School Spirit Revisited
I want to talk about school spirit again. Remember I said before that the school spirit here is not what it once was. When I went to school here and played football, the games were fun. Not just for the players, but for the spectators as well. Football belonged to everyone, everyone participated. The fans felt like they were a part of things, not just watching a game.
We have played against a few teams where I saw the other team's bleachers and saw that they were all having a lot of fun. Then I look at our side and everyone just sits there. We clap when we are supposed to clap and moan when we are supposed to moan, but we are not involved. The two games that really stick out to me are the Pennfield game and the Constantine game. The fans, students and band for these schools were so involved with the game that they were actually a part of what was going on.
Looking at the Pennfield game the band was in the endzone playing during the whole game. They would beat the drum during kickoffs. And play the fight song when they scored. I also liked that each time Pennfield scored on the band end of the field the band would give the players high fives and they would jump around having fun with the players. This is what I mean when I say they are a part of things, not just watching.
When I went to the Constantine game it was a similar situation. The band was in it's own section of the bleachers. They would play the fight song when their team did something really good. The kids in the band were singing and whoop whooping. They were having a blast, I could tell. This made it fun for the people in the stands as well.
I would love to see our band doing things like this at our games. Our band does a great half time show, but I would like to see them involved during the whole game. I want to hear our fight song everytime our football team does something good. I think it would be fun if they played the charge song sometimes. wouldn't it be fun to see our kids in the bleachers singing, dancing and having fun? Just think how fired up the band could get the fans and players. In my opinion school sports belong to all of us. It is our responsibility to help make it as good and as fun as it could be. I want to see our cheerleaders and fans dancing in the stands to a funky tune being played by our band.
Tell me what you think. Remember it is our school and we all have a say.

Football Team
Hello all. I have been hearing some disturbing things lately. I have heard students talking about how bad the football team is this year. I say we have a new coach who is doing an awesome job. He has some really good ideas. I like the fact that he expects the players to be leaders in the school, such as sitting in the front row and being model students. I love that. Give him a chance to be successful before you condemn him and the team.
I also believe that if you are not a part of the team you have no right to criticize them. If you are one of the people who feels as though things aren't going in the right direction, you should join the team. Maybe you are the one thing that is missing. Everyone has to think about how hard everyone involved with football works. The kids who play on the team work most of the year so they can be strong and ready for the team. I know kids who run and workout all summer while the rest of us are taking it easy. The coaches put in many hours outside of their normal day to make football fun and successful for the kids who play. They all deserve our unconditional support, not criticism.
The next time any of us feel like criticising the football team, maybe we should find someone involved and say,"good job". Positive comments will make them feel good and like they are appreciated. I sure do appreciate all they do for our school.

SCAVENGER HUNT
In the spirit of the Spartans vs the Weasels I have organized a bit of a scavenger hunt. Somewhere in the school is hidden an article that supports Michigan State. The article in question is located in a public location. It is not in a teacher's room or hidden in anybodies personal area. Be the first to locate the item and bring it to me, and you will be rewarded handsomely. Good luck, and good hunting.
BONUS POINT OPPORTUNITY!!!!
The first person to come up to me at the Homecoming Game tonight and let me know loud and proud that Michigan State will beat the UofM tomorrow will earn bonus points. Go State!
School lunch policy
I have a topic for debate. I would like to discuss the lunch time policy. Currently we have a closed lunch policy, meaning that students may not leave the grounds for lunch. My personal opinion is that closed lunch is a good idea. Students not leaving the property at lunch time means students are not getting into trouble in town at lunch time. When I say trouble I don't just mean behavior trouble. When students are driving to town for lunch they could get into a car accident. I know you say they could get into an accident at any time, but not allowing the students to leave eliminates that risk.
I think that some students may also be tempted to not return to school. If a student goes out for lunch and has only two hours left in the day he or she may skip. Especially if the student thinks he or she is doing really well in those two classes. I'm not saying this would happen, but it could. I know that most would come back, but a few probably would not. It only takes a few bad apples to spoil it for everyone else.
I can't wait to hear what you all have to say. Remember, this is your chance to speak your mind. You may come up with something that nobody has thought of. I will take your good ideas to Ms. Brumm and Mr. Gonser for discussion. You may get your ideas to come to life. Just remember to always be respectful. And ALWAYS REMEMBER: GO MAPLE VALLEY. AND GO MICHIGAN STATE!!!
